On campus in Nashville –As Vanderbilt’s tennis squads kick off their 2017 dual seasons, redshirt junior Astra Sharma is a name to watch going forward for the Commodores. The Perth, Australia native, 2015 All-American and NCAA tournament MVP is fresh off a strong fall season in which she reached the semifinals in both ITA individual national championships. The redshirt junior now enters the spring as the No. 2-ranked player in the country, the highest individual ranking for a player in Vanderbilt program history.
This week Sharma sat down with the Commodore Insider Podcast to discuss her long journey to West End, her favorite tennis players growing up, what the ninth-ranked Commodores must do to succeed this season and what it’s like to be the No. 2 player in the country. Plus, we ask the Aussie to assess Outback Steakhouse as a true Australian dining experience.
