NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association unveiled their All-American teams this week with Vanderbilt once again having a strong presence on the squads.
Baseball America tabbed David Price as it’s College Player of the Year as well as a first team All-American along with third baseman Pedro Alvarez and reliever Casey Weathers. It is the second time Alvarez has picked up first-team honors by the publication. Outfielder Dominic de la Osa rounded out the VU contingent by picking up second team honors.
The same foursome also picked up plaudits by the NCBWA, topped by Price winning the Dick Howser Trophy as the top player in college baseball. He was a first-team All-American selection along with Alvarez while de la Osa was a second team pick and Weathers a third-team honoree.
The American Baseball Coaches Association will release their All-American teams within the next week with three other Player of the Year awards still to be revealed.
David Price is a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, the Brooks Wallace Award and the Roger Clemens Award. The first two recognize the top player in college baseball by USA Baseball and the College Baseball Foundation respectively, while the Clemens Award is given to the nation’s top collegiate pitcher by the Greater Houston Baseball Association.
The Spikes winner will be announced via television on ESPNU on June 29th at a time to be determined. The Wallace Award winner will be announced at a banquet on July 3 in Lubbock,Texas, while the Clemens Award recipient will be revealed at a banquet on July 11 in Houston, Texas.
