Nov. 11, 2015

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The final week of Simone Charley’s junior season didn’t go unnoticed.

On Tuesday, the Tennessee Sports Writers Association recognized her by naming her the Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. Charley scored in both of Vanderbilt’s SEC Tournament games in Orange Beach, Ala., last week.

Charley, a native of Hoover, Ala., scored on an assist from Kacy Scarpa in the 39th minute to put Vanderbilt ahead in a 2-1 victory versus Georgia for the program’s first win in the SEC Tournament since 2005. Two days later against No. 5 Florida, the junior forward put Vanderbilt in front in the ninth minute for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Charley led the team in scoring with seven goals, four assists and 18 points. The Commodores were 5-1 when she scored. Charley, a three-time All-American in the triple jump, earned second-team All-SEC accolades from the league’s coaches.

The two-time All-SEC selection has 21 career goals, which is tied for 10th most all-time in program history.
