SEC CHAMPS by Vanderbilt Athletics on Exposure
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Vanderbilt is the 2021 Southeastern Conference champions.
The Commodores beat Arkansas 3-2 on Sunday on the Seaside Course at the Sea Island Golf Club to win its second league championship in the past four chances. Vandy also won the 2017 title.
William Moll, a sophomore, sank a par putt on 18 to clinch the match which was tied 2-2 at that point. Moll won 1-up over Manual Lozada.
“It just turned out it was good on good and our good just happened to be one hole better today,” Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh said.
Cole Sherwood had already won his match 4&2 and Reid Davenport solidified his 1-up win on 18.
“We talked about how guys got to step up,” Limbaugh said. “When you look at the way the week played out with Cole Sherwood finishing fourth in stroke play at his first SEC championship, coming out here and getting two huge points. Harrison Ott having a tough go of it in stroke play but found something in the final round and the way he played in the first two matches.
“William has just been so steady and Reid is starting to take really good steps. Just a total team effort.”
Vanderbilt now advances to the NCAA Regionals to be held in May.
“We’re going to enjoy this. We got about 17 days until NCAA Regionals and we got a lot of work to do. We’ll embrace that and try to be ready when it’s time to go.”
