Black Takes Series With 6-1 Win Over Gold 10/16/2005 Nashville, Tenn. – The Black team roped out 18 hits en route to a 6-1 win over the Gold to capture the three game split-squad series Sunday afternoon at Hawkins Field. Tyler Rhoden, Cameron Betourne and Cody Crowell combined to limit the Gold to just a run on six hits on the day. Rhoden gave up a run on one hit in four innings of work before Betourne (1-0) came on in relief in the fifth. He struck out three in three innings of work, before giving way to Crowell in the ninth. After giving up a leadoff double to catcher Shea Robin to start the frame, Crowell struck out the side to end the game. Third baseman Feinberg led the Black with four hits, including two doubles, with second baseman Rucker Taylor chipping in with three hits on the afternoon. Freshman right-hander Brett Jacobson struck out seven in four innings of work for the Gold team. Southpaw Stephen Shao (0-1) was charged with the loss after giving up two runs in two innings of relief. First baseman Brian Hernandez and Shea Robin led the Gold with two hits each. The Gold team scored a run in the second on a delayed double steal to take an early 1-0 lead. Greg Del George was at first and Robin was at third when the double steal brought in the run. The Black tied the game in the fourth on Matt Meingasner’s solo homer to left. They then took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Feinberg had a RBI double and first baseman Adam Kronk and Hanks RBI singles in the seventh to break the game open. The series closed fall practice for the Commodores who will open the regular season at the Public Storage Classic in Los Angeles, Calif., the weekend of February 17-19.
