NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Vanderbilt baseball will close out its fall practice schedule this weekend with the annual Black and Gold Series.

The three game intrasquad series begins on Thursday night at 6 p.m. and will continue on Friday at 6 p.m. at Hawkins Field. The squads will take Saturday off before concluding the set on Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games will be played regardless if one of the teams wins the first two games. Admission is free to the public.

Senior hurler Nick Christiani and junior infielder Brian Harris selected the Black squad, while senior Jonathan White and junior Andrew Giobbi picked the Gold squad.

This year’s series will have a new look as seven position starters are gone from last year’s team that made a school record third straight NCAA tournament appearance.

The Commodores have 13 newcomers and several returnees with limited game action.

“We’re looking to get the younger kids who have never played before some experience in game-like situations,” head coach Tim Corbin said when asked what he expects to get from the series. “Hopefully we will have a few people in the stands to create a game-like atmosphere for our team which they haven’t seen.”

The starting pitchers are to be determined, but Thursday’s hurlers will be comprised of draft eligible players.

“None of the pitchers can throw more than five innings and they have to at least throw two so they’ll have to break up the innings,” added Corbin.

Fans that can’t come to the series can follow it via live stats and internet audio on www.vucommodores.com. Eric Jones will call the action with former Commodore baseballers dropping in on the broadcast from time to time.
