Black & Gold teams set for Series

Oct. 21, 2015

Nashville, Tenn. – Rosters for Vanderbilt’s annual Black & Gold Series presented by Chevrolet are set with the Series set to open tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Hawkins Field.

Seniors Tyler Campbell and Kyle Smith are serving as team captains this year with Campbell leading the Black team and Smith at the helm for the Gold squad. Hitting coach/recruiting coordinator Travis Jewett will manage the Black team with new volunteer assistant coach Blake Allen managing the Gold team.

The Gold team will be the home team in the series opener and send junior lefty Ben Bowden to the bump to face the Black team’s sophomore right-hander Kyle Wright. Bowden is coming off earning co-MVP honors in the Cape Cod League Finals while helping Yarmouth-Dennis to the title. Wright earned Freshman All-American status last season for his stellar work out of the bullpen. Sophomore right-hander Matt Ruppenthal gets the ball for the Black squad in Game 2 against Gold’s sophomore right-hander Jordan Sheffield.

The first three games of the Series will feature seven-inning games with the remaining two games scheduled to go the full nine innings. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday with Sunday’s start slated for noon. The final two games are set for October 28-29 with first pitch at 4 p.m.
