For the second consecutive day, Belmont held off a late rally to survive and advance in the NCAA Nashville Regional, topping Troy 5-2 on Sunday afternoon to advance to the championship.

Bruin reliever Jon Ivie retired the Trojans in order in the ninth to record his 15th save of the year. Starter Nate Woods, who has also served as Belmont’s designated hitter all weekend, allowed four hits and one run over five innings to improve his record to 7-5.

Trojan starter Ryan Sorce was pulled in the second inning after the Bruins loaded the bases with no outs. Thomas Austin was not able to keep those three runners from scoring as a Jared Breen single scored two runs and the Bruins built an early 3-0 lead that ultimately proved too much to recover from.

Belmont moves on to take on Vanderbilt tonight in the Regional final, with the first pitch scheduled to take place at 7:35 Central. The Commodores can secure a spot in the Super Regionals with a victory, while the Bruins must win tonight and tomorrow at 6 p.m. to advance.
