Pitchers Tyler Beede and Brian Miller have been named preseason All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Both Beede and Miller are coming off All-American sophomore seasons with Beede earning a first team nod from the NCBWA.
Beede set the new school record last season with 14 wins on his way to being a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the nation’s top college baseball player. The right-hander posted a 2.32 ERA with 103 strikeouts over 101.0 innings while allowing opponents to hit just .187.
Miller also established new school records as a sophomore with a Vanderbilt single-season record 16 saves to move him to the top of the Commodores’ all-time list with 21 saves in his first two seasons. Miller was extremely valuable to the Dores in the bullpen going 5-2 with a 1.58 ERA in a team-high 32 games.
Beede and Miller lead a deep and talented pitching staff into the 2014 season with all but All-American Kevin Ziomek returning from last year’s team that went 54-12 and posted a 2.76 ERA.
Vanderbilt opens the season February 14 at Long Beach State before returning home to take on Lipscomb February 19 at Hawkins Field.
