| Baseball to Begin Practice Tuesday
1/16/2006
Nashville, Tenn. – Vanderbilt baseball will start practice tomorrow in preparation for the 2006 season that opens next month. The Commodores return four position starters and four pitchers off of last season’s 34-21 team, and has added the most talented group of newcomers in the nation according to Baseball America. Senior catcher Brian Hernandez (.342, 5 HR, 42 RBI) is back to bolster the offense, while preseason All-American David Price anchors the pitching staff. Fourth year head coach Tim Corbin believes that this team is a talented, yet inexperienced group that will need to develop as the season progresses. “Because our fall practice only lasts four weeks, we left it this year with more unanswered questions than we have had in the past due to the influx of a lot of new people,” said Corbin. “Our questions will have to be answered as we go into the first part of the season. As I see it right now, I don’t know if we will have stability in our lineup until midway through the season depending on what happens in the early part of the spring.” Practices are slated to start at 2:30 p.m. everyday, with Monday’s as the scheduled off day throughout the year. The Commodores will open the season at the USC/Public Storage Classic in Los Angeles the weekend of Feb. 17-19. |
