LEXINGTON, Ky. — Consistent rain in the Lexington area has caused the suspension of Saturday night’s baseball game between Vanderbilt and Kentucky, with the Commodores leading 2-1 in the sixth inning.
The game will be completed after tomorrow’s regularly scheduled 1 p.m. game. The first game will be a seven-inning affair, while the completed game will go a full nine according to Southeastern Conference rules.
The game was delayed approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes due to rain in the area. Rain continued to fall and the teams cleared the field with Vanderbilt runners on the corners and no outs in the sixth.
UK took advantage of two Vanderbilt errors to plate a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The Commodores took the lead in the second on a two-out two-run double by Brad French. Matt Meingasner started the rally with a two-out single through the right side and advanced to second when Alex Feinberg drew a walk. French then lined a shot to center that centerfielder Antoine DeJesus could not get while diving, allowing both base runners to score.
Sophomore right-hander Nick Christiani (5-2, 3.60 ERA) will take the hill for the Commodores in the first game, while the Wildcats will counter with junior right-hander Greg Dombrowski (4-1, 4.06 ERA).
