VU set for key matchups at MLB4 Tournament

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Vanderbilt will be joined by Virginia, TCU and Cal State Fullerton as part of the inaugural MLB4 Tournament, scheduled for Feb. 15-17 at Salt River Fields in Talking Stick, Ariz., the shared spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.

Major League Baseball, which announced the naming of the event on Tuesday, also revealed that Vanderbilt’s Feb. 15 season opener (6 p.m. CT) against Virginia will serve as the “Showcase Game” and air live on MLB Network. The game will be a rematch of the 2014 and 2015 College World Series’ Finals.

The Commodores continue the weekend on Feb. 16 with a 2 p.m. CT matchup against Cal State Fullerton. VU caps the tournament on Feb. 17 with a 12 p.m. CT tilt against TCU.

“MLB is very pleased to launch the new ‘MLB4’ tournament to highlight just a touch of the great baseball being played all around our country at this time of the year,” said Tony Reagins, Executive Vice President of Baseball & Softball Development, Major League Baseball. “College baseball is a cornerstone of our sport’s pipeline, and it is important that we continue to emphasize attention toward this segment of the game. The four programs selected to participate in this inaugural event are among the best and we are excited to bring a great product to fans in Arizona this February.”

Highlights and game casts of all MLB4 games will be available on MLB.com/MLB4. Following the weekend opening set, Vanderbilt hits Hawkins Field for 15 consecutive games beginning with the home opener on Feb. 20 against Evansville.
