Baseball America tabs VU preseason No. 4

The preseason accolades continue to come for the Vanderbilt Commodores with Baseball America the latest to join the crowd, naming the Dores the fourth-ranked team in the nation in the publication’s preseason poll.

The Commodores are joined in the Top 25 by three other Southeastern Conference teams led by top ranked Florida. Defending national champion South Carolina joins the Gators and Vanderbilt in the Top 10 at No. 7 with LSU checking in at No. 22. Head Coach Tim Corbin’s squad was ranked fifth in Collegiate Baseball’s poll released last month and juniors Sonny Gray and Jason Esposito have garnered multiple preseason All-America honors.

Corbin and the Commodores begin preseason practice tomorrow afternoon at Hawkins Field in preparation for the 2011 season. The Dores travel to San Diego to start the season February 18 playing the Toreros and San Diego State on the trip. Hawkins Field will host its first game of the year on February 23 when Belmont visits.

ESPN announced additional SEC games to be televised last week picking up at least two more VU games. The Commodores’ game at South Carolina on April 17 and home game against LSU on April 24 will be televised on ESPN2. ESPN also has the rights to a wild card selection on May 13 when Florida visits Hawkins Field. Vandy will also be featured on the SEC Game of the Week on ESPNU when the team travels to Georgia on May 19.

The team’s annual Baseball Banquet will be February 12 at 7 p.m. inside the Student Life Center across from Memorial Gym. Ticket prices have been cut in half for this year’s event and a child’s ticket has been added. Adult tickets will be $30 and children tickets (13 and under) will be $25. Season tickets for the 2011 baseball season will include a new Family Plan, which includes two adult and two youth tickets in the outfield for only $199. Other season ticket options include, premium reserved seating behind home plate for $170, regular reserved seating down the lines for $135 and outfield season tickets for $75.
