Nashville, Tenn. – Vanderbilt baseball added another player to its 2005-06 recruiting class with the signing of Louisiana prepster Alex Hilliard.

Hilliard was a second-team all-district selection at second base for Lafayette High in Lafayette, La. as a junior last spring. He hit .430 with 10 doubles, six triples, four homers and 45 runs batted in. He also was invited to the Perfect Game National Showcase that highlights the top players in the nation. Hilliard was selected to play in the East Coast Professional Showcase as well.

“We are pleased to sign a player like Alex and look forward to him coming to play for us next season,” said head coach Tim Corbin.

Hilliard completes the Commodores seven-member recruiting class signed during the early period.
