GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Vanderbilt beat Florida 3-2 Saturday afternoon to clinch the series over the Gators on the road.
Colin Barczi hit the go-ahead solo home run in the top of the ninth to put Vanderbilt in front and Connor Fennell slammed the door in the home half for the save.
Florida tallied nine hits to Vandy’s five, but the Commodores stranded 11 Gators on base.
Jonathan Vastine led off the top of the third with a solo home run to left-center field, his fifth on the season, to give Vandy a 1-0 lead.
The Dores tacked on another run in the top of the fifth with an RBI double off the wall in center by Mike Mancini.
Vanderbilt starting pitcher Cody Bowker was relieved in the fifth inning after holding the Gators to one run on four hits with seven strikeouts.
Florida scored its first run of the series in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Alex Kranzler allowed just the one run and earned the win with 2.2 innings of work.
The Commodores secured their first series win in Gainesville since 2014 and will go for the sweep Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
