Annie Menees Named Third-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt junior Annie Menees was named a third-team Academic All-American, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Tuesday, June 22. Menees helped lead the VU women’s tennis team to the NCAA Semifinals in 2004 while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.97 in child development and cognitive studies.

A native of St. Louis, Mo., Menees won a pair of singles and doubles titles at the 2003 Furman Fall Classic and the 2003 SEC Coaches Fall Classic. Menees and teammate Audra Falk climbed as high as No. 10 in the nation, while Menees also earned a national singles ranking during the spring of 2004.

Menees was named Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Southeastern Conference in 2004. She has made the league’s Academic Honor Roll twice. For the 2002-03 season, Menees was named Vanderbilt’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year, while also earning Scholar Athlete recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America; a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
