NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Frances Altick, a freshman on the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team, has received the 2012 USTA Southern Bill Ozaki Sportsmanship Award, as announced by USTA Southern Section President Mike McNulty.
Altick received the award for providing outstanding service to the game of tennis. She will have the opportunity to travel to Atlanta, Ga., for the J. Randolph Gregson Awards Ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 12, during the USTA Southern Annual Meeting.
The Monroe, La., native is 4-2 in singles play and 3-2 in doubles through her first two collegiate tournaments. She came to Vanderbilt with already an impressive resume, having been named the Louisiana Junior Tennis Player of the Year in 2011.
“We are all happy for and proud of Frances (Altick) for earning this wonderful award,” said Vanderbilt head coach Geoff Macdonald. “She is a fantastic player who competes with intensity, but she is also gracious and classy, in the way she carries herself. It is a richly deserved honor.”
Altick and the Commodores are in action this weekend at the Memphis Invitational Nov. 2-4, in Memphis, Tenn.
