Singles Draw | Doubles Draw | Consolation Draw
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team wrapped up day one at the USTA Clay Court Invitational, Thursday, going 2-3 in singles and 1-0 in doubles play. Frances Altick advanced to the round of 16, following her first round bye, winning in straight sets over Caroline Eberhart of Central Florida.
Both Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares started the day for the Commodores in the round of 64. Antal dropped her opening match, 6-2, 6-1, to Erica Oosterhuat of the USTA. Casares advanced to the second round of the day with her opening match win over Terri Fleming of the USTA.
Altick was the only Vanderbilt player to advance out of the round of 32 with her 6-0, 6-3 win over Eberhart.
Fourth-seeded Georgina Sellyn played her seventh match in eight days after her sweep of the Ohio Valley Regional. The sophomore dropped her round of 32 match 6-0, 6-3 to Sofia Kenin of the USTA.
Casares lost her second match of the day to Nikki Sanders of Texas Tech, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
First match losers, Antal and Sellyn will play in the singles consolation draw.
Casares will continue play at Disney as she and Antal won their doubles match over Porter and Fleming of USTA, 8-6.
