NASHVILLE, Tenn. – RJ Austin, Sawyer Hawks and Brodie Johnston were each recognized with postseason awards from the SEC, the league announced Monday.
Hawks earned Second Team All-SEC honors while Austin and Johnston were named to the All-Defensive team. Johnston was also named Freshman All-SEC and Austin was named to the Community Service Team.
Hawks has been one of the nation’s top relievers all season long, owning a 1.55 ERA with 51 strikeouts over 40.2 innings and six saves. The righty maintained his dominance out of the pen during SEC play, recording five of his saves in conference games. Hawks has a 1.88 ERA in SEC play with 31 strikeouts to just five walks.
Johnston and Austin represent the Commodores on the All-Defense squad, helping lead Vanderbilt to a 0.982 fielding percentage, seventh best in NCAA DI.
Johnston also earned Freshman All-SEC honors, leading all SEC freshmen in home runs during the regular season with 12. Johnston’s 51 RBI led all Vandy hitters and ranks second among SEC freshmen.
In addition to the All-Defensive team, Austin was honored on the SEC Community Service team, recognizing the junior’s commitment to serving the community. Austin has been one of Vandy’s hottest hitters down the stretch and ranks third on the team in RBI with 38.
Vanderbilt heads to Hoover, Alabama, this week for the SEC Tournament. The Commodores are the No. 4 seed and will play Thursday.
