2006 Vanderbilt Baseball Schedule Released

9/28/2005

Nashville, Tenn. – Thirty-four home games highlight the 2006 Vanderbilt baseball schedule released today by head coach Tim Corbin.

The Commodores open the season at the Public Storage Classic, hosted by Southern Cal in Los Angeles the weekend of Feb. 17-19. VU will face San Diego, USC and Kansas at the tournament before heading home for a season-long 14 game homestand.

“This year will be the first time we take a trip cross-country to open play in USC’s tournament. It will be great because it is on the road and will be our first big challenge before we get into SEC action.”

Vanderbilt will open its home campaign on Feb. 22 against Tennessee Tech at 4 p.m. The Dores will then host the Music City Classic the weekend of Feb. 24-26 and will face Pittsburgh, Kent State and Kansas.

“The tournament here is really good. You have Kent State that should be predicted to win the Mid-American Conference. Kansas is a Big 12 team on the rise as is Pittsburgh in the Big East.”

Series against Ball State (March 3-5) and Brown (March 10-12) closes out the non-conference weekend slate. Vandy will also face Creighton (NCAA tourament team in 2005), Butler, Belmont, Western Kentucky, Austin Peay, Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee State in midweek action throughout the year.

VU opens the SEC season on the road against Mississippi the weekend of March 17-19. Auburn comes to town the following weekend for the Commodores conference opening series at Hawkins Field.

Vanderbilt will face 2005 NCAA runner-up Florida in Gainesville the weekend of March 31- April 2 before hosting Arkansas and Georgia in back-to-back weekends in April.

VU will close out the month of April on the road against Alabama (21-23) and then at home against Kentucky (28-30).

The team will travel to Knoxville to take on 2005 College World Series participant Tennessee the weekend of May 5-7 and will face LSU on the road the following weekend (May 12-14) to close out the road slate.

Vanderbilt will finish the regular season at home against South Carolina the weekend of May 18-20.

The SEC tournament will start on May 24, with the NCAA tournament starting the following weekend.

“It is as competitive a schedule as we have put together,” said Corbin.
