100 Commodore Wins

Head coach Darren Ambrose becomes second in program history to reach the mark

NASHVILLE, Tenn, — Vanderbilt soccer head coach Darren Ambrose registered his 100th win as a Commodore on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Saint Mary’s (Cailf.) at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. Ambrose becomes just the second head coach in program history to reach the milestone.

Sophomore Sydney Watts opened the scoring for the Dores after Julianne Leskauskas served cross box to meet Watt’s head for the game’s first score.

The Gaels responded with a goal from Sydney Middaugh in the 23rd minute of action to even the score 1-1. Watts found the back of the net for the second time after Abi Brighton had a shot off the goalpost. Watts got the put-back to give Vandy back the lead.

Out of the break, Leskauskas netted her first goal as a Commodore. Jessica Hinton threw the ball in to Rachel Deresky who found an open Leskauskas in the 18-yard box. Deresky then found Addie Porter, scoring top left to give Vandy a 4-1 advantage.

Vandy outshot Saint Mary’s 23-8 and finished with 53 percent of the possession. In two wins this week, the Commodores outscored their opponent 9-1 and outshot them 51-9.

The Dores are back in action on Friday night, hosting Columbia. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. and can be seen on SEC Network+.
