TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team advanced three players to the singles final of their respective draws and came away with one title when sophomore Alex Zotov defeated Alabama’s Michael Jung at the final day of the Crimson Tide Fall Championships.
Playing in the Joe Namath draw, Zotov earned a spot in the final after defeating Jacksonville’s Francisco Riveroll, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, in the semifinals. In the finals, Zotov topped Jung, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Also playing in finals on Sunday were freshman Alex DiValerio and junior James Moye. DiValerio earned a trip to the finals of the Ken Stabler bracket with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over Jordan Smith of Memphis. In the finals, he was topped by Alabama’s Ricky Doverspike, 6-3, 6-4.
In the finals of the Gene Stallings draw, Moye was defeated by Clemson’s Robert Pietrucha.
In doubles play, Vanderbilt’s tandem of Adam Baker and Zotov were defeated in the semifinals of the Red draw. The duo was defeated by Alabama’s team of Doverspike and Mathieu Thibaudeau, 8-5.
Sunday’s play also concluded the fall season for Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team.
