WXC Competes At Rhodes Invite

10/1/2005

Memphis, Tenn. — The women’s cross country team competed at the Rhodes College Invitational Saturday, completing the demanding 5k course with 195 points for a 6th place finish.

“The course was more challenging than the map indicated,” said Head Track and Field coach Lori Sheppard. “We had some great efforts and finishing 6th was a real accomplishment against the competition.”

Senior Caitlin Shannon finished first for the Commodores in 15th place (19:10).

“I felt like I ran well for where I am in training,” said Shannon. “I think we represented well. We tested our fitness.”

Standout performances by freshmen Christine Brown (19:41) and Amanda Grosse (20:29) boosted Vanderbilt’s performance.

“We went out fast but needed to in such a tight course,” Brown said.

Aoife Cooke of Arkansas Tech placed first with a time of 17:43 and Harding College scored 56 points to take home the team title.
