WSM-AM to Provide Internet Listening Option on Selected Games

WSM-AM, the flagship station for Vanderbilt athletics, will be a source for fans around the world to hear selected Commodore games for free on the internet this season.

The Vanderbilt/ISP Sports Network recently announced the Commodores had become part of a national network of Division 1-A athletic programs to team with Yahoo! Sports to bring live internet audio to fans for a monthly or annual subscription rate. However, the network will allow WSM-AM to stream live audio on the limited number of games that originate on the 50,000 watt AM station through the station’s website, www.wsmonline.com, at no charge to listeners.

Per the agreement between the Vanderbilt/ISP Sports Network and WSM, games that start prior to <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>2:00 pm Central time on Friday or Saturday will be carried on WSM-AM. Games starting later than 2:00 pm shift to WSM-FM to prevent interruption of coverage of the world famous Grand Ole Opry. The FM station does not stream its programming on the internet.

“Our goal with the new streaming package was to make every football game available to our fans over the internet,” said Meghan Molnar, general manager of the Vanderbilt/ISP Sports Network. “Because not all of our games are carried on WSM-AM, the Yahoo! Partnership is important for the fan wanting to hear each and every game. But, for the fan just wanting to listen to games on the AM channel, they will not have to purchase the listening package this year.”

Fewer than half of Vanderbilt’s 12 football games are currently scheduled to be carried by WSM-AM, starting with the season opener August 30th against Ole Miss. Game times are subject to change.

Fans wishing to hear all games may subscribe to the full Yahoo! Sports listening package (“SchoolPass”) on a monthly basis at $4.95 or a reduced annual rate of $29.95 through VanderbiltUniversity’s official athletic website, www.vucommodores.com. The full listening package includes Commodore football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and the weekly “Commodore Call-In” show broadcasts.
