VU swim team hosts season opener

NASHVILLE – Kicking off their 2018-19 season, the Dores take on the Campbell Fighting Camel’s Friday, Oct. 12.
 
In a relay style meet, the Commodores will debut seven new freshmen and one transfer. Transfer Rachel Goldblatt, sister to senior Johanna Goldblatt joins the team after swimming her freshman year for Brandeis University specializing in butterfly and freestyle. The sophomore will be a strong addition to the team and hopes to see strong success as a Commodore. 
 
Freshmen Whitney Brown, Abigail Burke, Elizabeth Colwell, Tonner DeBeer, Mallory Ely, Krislyn Porter and Lauren Thomas will all take their first swim as a Commodore at Centennial Sportsplex on Friday.
 
Coming off of an even 4-4 record last year, the Dores feature seventeen veteran swimmers including four seniors, Mary Beckwith, Eun Chon, Madison Eaker and Johanna Goldblatt. 
 
Head Coach of the Vanderbilt swim team, Jeremy Organ enters his 13thseason as head coach of the Commodores accompanied by assistant coach, Jennifer Cahill who now enters her second season with the Dores. 
 
Last season the team closed out their 2017 series of meets dominating Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. resulting in a 155-107 victory with Vandy winning 10 of 14 races. Eight different Commodores won events as well as four swimmers placing in multiple events. 
 
The Dores hope to see the same success Friday as they take on the Campbell for the fifth straight season.
