Commodores sweep quad dual

Colorado Springs, CO. – Competing in its first quad dual of the season, the Vanderbilt women’s swim team defeated all three opponents, earning a victory over Air Force Academy, 151.5-135.5, a 166-131 victory over Colorado Mesa University and a 186-75 defeat of Colorado School of Mines. 
 
The Dores also earned multiple podium finishes throughout the quad dual. Opening up the meet in the 200 Y Medley Relay, Vanderbilt A relay Johanna Goldblatt, Lindsey Gordon, Abby Burke and Tonner DeBeer finished in first place with a time of 1:45.27.
 
Continuing the Commodores’ early success, sophomore Lara Hernandez-Tome took the pool to compete in the 1,000 Y Freestyle where she swam a time of 10:46.09 for a first-place finish. The sophomore also conquered another distance podium finish in the 500 Y Freestyle, placing second with a time of 5:14.05.
 
In the 100 Y Backstroke, senior Johanna Goldblatt swam a swift time of 57.22 earning a first place finish for the Dores while sophomore Lauren Bergmann finished in fourth place with a time of 59.38.
 
Earning her first individual first-place finish, freshman Lizzy Colwell finished first in the 100 Y Breaststroke (1:06.97) with sophomores Lindsey Gordon and Hannah Hunt placing third and fourth respectively with close times of 1:07.18 and 1:07.21.
 
Heading into Event 11, the 200 Y Butterfly, Brooke Ellis saw quick success in the pool swimming a time of 1:03.09 earning the sophomore second place in the event.
 
In the 50 Y freestyle the Dores dominated the pool, accomplishing all top-three finishes with freshman Abby Burke earning first place with a time of 24.08. Burke was closely followed by teammate Paige Hamilton (24.58) and Kaley Buchanan in third-place for the Commodores with a time of 24.95.
 
Burke continued her victory reign by winning the next event, the 100 Y Freestyle, with a swift time of 52.64. The win earned the freshman her first individual first-place victory of the season.
 
Continuing the VU freshmen success at the quad meet, freshman Tonner DeBeer earned her first individual first-place victory with a time of 2:05.11 in the 200 Y Backstroke. Sophomore Bergmann also earned a podium finish placing third with a time of 2:08.69.
 
Closing the quad meet for the Commodores, Debeer and Ellis finished second and fourth in the 100 Y Butterfly with times of 57.76 and 59.63, respectively. They were followed by Buchanan and Colwell earning first and second place finishes for the Dores in the 200 Y IM with times of 2:12.81 and 2:12.84 respectively.

After a successful first quad meet, the Dores look to continue this success in their 4th meet of the season next Saturday, 10/26 taking on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
