Houston, Texas – The Vanderbilt swim team concluded their stint in Houston with an eighth-place at the Phill Hansel Invitational.
The Commodores began day three of the Invitational competing in the prelims for the 1650 Y Free, 200 Y Back, 100 Y Free, 200 Y Breast and 200 Y Fly with seventeen Dores advancing to the finals in their respective events.
Seven Vanderbilt swimmers competed in the final swim of the 200 Y Back with freshman Tonner Debeer swimming her fourth final swim of the weekend. Debeer led the Dores in ninth place of the B final with a time of 1:59.93, beating her prelim time of 2:01.00.
Senior Madison Eaker joined DeBeer in the B Final, placing 14th in the event with a time of 2:03.90.
In the 100 Y Free, multiple Dores earned final swims. Standout freshman Abby Burke led the Commodores in 14th in the event with a time of 51.25. She was followed by senior Johanna Goldblatt, who earned 31st place (52.86), Reagan Roob placing 35th (52.31), Paige Hamilton tying for 36th place (52.43) and Kaley Buchanan closed the race for the Dores placing 40th with a time of 53.06.
Three Commodores advanced to the finals in the 200 Y Breast with sophomore Hannah Hunt earning her second top-20 performance of the Invitational, placing 11th in the event swimming a time of 2:16.57.
In the C Final, sophomore Lindsey Gordon competed in her second final swim of the Invitational and finished with a time of 2:21.83. That improved her prelim time by more than two seconds, earning the sophomore 24th place.
In the final individual race of the Phill Hansel, sophomores Brooke Ellis and Lara Hernandez-Tome took on the 200 Y Fly with Ellis, earning 18th place in the C Final with a time of 2:03.20. She was followed by Hernandez-Tome who finished the event in 35th place for the Dores with a time of 2:08.48.
Closing out the weekend in the 400 Y Free relay, Vandy A relay; DeBeer, Burke, Hamiliton and Goldblatt earned eighth place in the relay swimming a time of 3:26.10.
The Phill Hansel Invitational closes out the 2018 fall season for the Dores, with the next meet taking place on January 19 when the Commodores take on Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.
