Commodores Set Sail for Pirate Clash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt opens conference play on the road Sunday against East Carolina at Johnson Stadium set for 9:30 a.m. CT.
 
The Commodores (8-2) are off to their best start in program history through 10 games. The Dores bounced back on Sunday with a dominant 19-2 victory over Butler after suffering their second loss of the season at Notre Dame. They are now 2-0 in games coming off a loss this season. 
 
The Dores have been strong on both fronts and rank first nationally in assists per game (9.20), third in caused turnovers per game (13.80) and fifth in points per game (24.50).
 
Emily Mathewson has built off her success from last year, leading the Commodores in goals (20) and second in points (32). She recently recorded her 50th career assist against No. 12 Notre Dame.
 
Gabby Fornia recently was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll for the second straight week after totaling seven points in two games. She currently leads the Commodores with 25 assists and 35 points. She is also 10th in the nation in assists and assists per game (2.50). 
 
Melissa Hawkins leads the defense and currently ranks eighth in the country with 2.30 caused turnovers per game.
