Women’s Soccer Defeats Chattanooga 2-1 9/6/2003 The Vanderbilt Commodores scored two first-half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory over Chattanooga Saturday night at Finley Stadium. VU is now 2-1 on the season, while UTC falls to 1-2. Junior Molly Wilson (5-4, MF, Springfield, Va.) scored an unassisted goal at the 28:41 mark. Wilson then found Emily Wilpers (5-3, Sr., MF, Marietta, Ga.) across the field who scored the game-winning goal at the 31:09 mark. Both goals were the first of the season for Wilson and Wilpers. Senior goalkeeper Stacee Sproul numbered two saves in the contest, giving up a goal at the 59:28 mark when Diana Jallo scored her second goal of the season for the Lady Mocs. Vanderbilt totaled nine shots in the game compared to UTC’s four. The Commodores continue their five-game road swing next weekend at the Arizona State Tournament. Vanderbilt plays San Diego in first round action Friday (Sept. 12) at 11 am MT. |
