Wojdelko Signs with Spirit

Sara Wojdelko becomes the first Vandy goalkeeper to sign with an NWSL team

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Spirit announced the signing of former Vanderbilt goalkeeper Sara Wojdelko to their roster on Friday.

Out of Northville, Michigan, Wojdelko led the Commodores to back-to-back record-breaking seasons. In 2024, the keeper started 17 contests highlighted by her 14-save performance against Florida State—the defending national champion—to send Vandy to the program’s first-ever Sweet 16. During her graduate campaign in 2025, Wojdelko started in 23 matches and posted 11 shutouts, third most in a single season in program history. Wojdelko cracked into the top 10 on the program’s all-time career saves list, finishing with 147 stops. The shot stopper registered a 0.72 goals-against-average for her career, the second-best in program history.

Wojdelko finishes as one of the most decorated players in history after being named 2025 SEC Goalkeeper of the Year, first-team All-SEC, and to the SEC All-Tournament team. Nationally, Wojdelko was selected first-team all-region and Scholar All-American as well as a second-team All-American by United Soccer Coaches.

Wojdelko and the Spirit will look to build on the side’s consecutive NWSL championship appearances in 2026. The team will begin preseason in January before kicking off the regular season in mid-March.
