RIDGELAND, S.C. –Vanderbilt men’s golfer Wells Williams is set to represent the United States this week at the 29th Arnold Palmer Cup. The event takes place Thursday-Saturday at Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
The Arnold Palmer Cup, named after the legendary golfer, is an annual team golf competition for collegiate golfers. Since 2018, the event has been contested between a United States team and an international team representing the rest of the world. The teams consist of 12 men and 12 women.
The event begins Thursday with mixed four-ball matches, while Friday features foursome and mixed foursome matches. The event concludes Saturday with single matches. Golfers tee off at 7:30 a.m. CT on Thursday and Friday, while play on Saturday begins at 6:30 a.m. CT. The Arnold Palmer Cup Champion is the team with the most points at the conclusion of the four rounds of play. If the two sides are tied the holder retains the Cup.
It is the first time that Williams will represent the Red, White and Blue at the Palmer Cup. The Vanderbilt men’s golf team has a rich history at the Arnold Palmer Cup. A total of 12 Commodores have competed at the Palmer Cup, while Vanderbilt men’s golf head coach Scott Limbaugh led Team USA back in 2019. At last year’s event, Vandy seniors Gordon Sargent and Jackson Van Paris helped the United States win the Palmer Cup on International soil for the first time since 2018.
There will be no live stream of the 29th Arnold Palmer Cup, but fans can follow all of the action via live results at GolfStat.com.
Williams had a spectacular junior campaign with the Dores, as he earned a Golfweek All-American honorable mention selection and was named to the All-SEC second team. He became the sixth Commodore in program history to win multiple tournaments in the same season. Williams earned medalist honors at the 2025 Southwest Invitational and the 2025 Mason Rudolph Championship. The West Point, Mississippi, native held a scoring average of 70.65 through 37 rounds. He won the 2025 Southwestern Invitational with a three-round total of 5-under 208, then he closed out the regular season by winning the 2025 Mason Rudolph Championship.
His 54-hole score of 198 at the Mason Rudolph is tied for the fifth-lowest three-round total in program history. Additionally, Williams’ 15-under vs. par is tied for the fifth-lowest 54-hole vs. par score ever posted by a Commodore. His season-low 18-hole score of 8-under 63 set in Round 1 of the Mason Rudolph tied him for the fifth-lowest single-round total in program history.
