Vanderbilt freshman Will Gordon was named the SEC Co-Player of the Week and Patrick Martin was named the Freshman of the Week in an announcement made by the SEC.
Gordon, from Davidson, N.C., finished in a tie for the individual lead this weekend at the 37th Annual Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., with a total of 13-under par, 203, which included a final-round 63, his second final-round 63 this semester. He posted two bogey-free rounds in Statesboro, and finished with 17 birdies for the weekend. The result was his fourth top 10 finish of his career, and the first atop an individual leader board. For the season, he has played in all 21 rounds this year for the Commodores and is averaging 70.62 strokes per round.
Martin, from Birmingham, Ala., finished in a tie for seventh at the Schenkel Invitational with a final total of nine-under par, 207 (68-70-69) in Statesboro, Ga., and led the tournament in birdies with 18. Martin’s finish at the Schenkel was his third top 10 finish of the season. Six of his nine rounds this spring have been in the 60’s and for the season, he has played in all 21 rounds and is averaging 70.62 strokes per round.
