Also, if you are a former Vanderbilt student-athlete who would like to update their information with Vanderbilt athletics, please let us know.

Hi Lewis
Football – Quarterback – 1995-98

hilewismug4312.jpgFormer Commodore quarterback Hi Lewis graduated from Vanderbilt in 1999. After playing his final season with the Commodores, Lewis served as a graduate assistant coach at Vanderbilt until 2001. He later coached at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville for a few years. His most memorable game for the Commodores is a forgettable one at that, but it is one he can laugh about today.

In the 1998 season opener at Mississippi State, Lewis made the only start of his career. His first pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown and his second pass was also picked off. On his third series of the game, he fumbled. Vanderbilt lost the game 42-0. VUCommodores.com recently caught up with Lewis, who still lives in Nashville, to discuss a wide range of topics.VUCommodores.com: Do you still try to stay involved with the sport of football even after your playing and coaching days?
Hi Lewis: I do. I watch college and pro football games from the stands and the comfort of my couch. After my debut and finale at Mississippi State, I didn’t have too many local flag football teams begging for my services.

hilewis300wide4312.jpgHow closely do you follow Vanderbilt’s football program these days?
Being local, I am fortunate to be able to follow it pretty closely, and I have enjoyed watching Coach Franklin transform our program. I know a lot of the football alumni are fired up about what he has done, and are appreciative of he and his staff’s efforts to bring the program to a level that we all worked so hard to try to bring it to.

What is your current career?
For the last 5 ½ years I’ve been an industrial real estate broker, handling sales and leasing of manufacturing and distribution warehouse facilities.

As someone not from Nashville, what is it about this city that has kept you here since your days at Vanderbilt?
I enjoyed what Nashville had to offer from the day I stepped foot in this town 17 years ago. I like the fact that you can get away in seclusion if you need to, and on the other hand, you can pretty much guarantee you’re always going to see a familiar face when you’re out and about around town.

Have you begun a family in Nashville?
I have been married for almost seven years now and have three children: Hiram, 5, Madelyn, 3, Chandler, 1. We also have two dogs: Leroy, 15 and Mandy, 7.

How close is your connection to Vanderbilt?
My wife and I are proud of our deep connection to Vanderbilt; my wife was born at Vanderbilt Hospital, we both attended undergraduate and graduate school at Vanderbilt, I played and coached at Vanderbilt, my wife currently works at Peabody, all three of our children were born at Vanderbilt Hospital, and all three of our children are in the Vanderbilt day care center.
