NASHVILLE — The Vanderbilt ISP Sports Radio Network has a new flagship station.

WGFX-FM and ISP Sports, the multimedia rightsholder for Commodore Athletics, have announced a new agreement that will bring all Vanderbilt football and men’s basketball game broadcasts, as well as weekly call-in shows featuring head coaches Bobby Johnson and Kevin Stallings, to the station’s 104.5 location on the FM dial.

“We are very excited to be the new flagship for Commodore sports,” Steve Dickert, Vice President of Citadel Broadcasting, which owns WGFX, says.  “Vanderbilt is the local SEC university and we’re building a local sports talk station.”

WGFX’s “Sports Zone” call-in show was number one in the Arbitron ratings among local call-in shows this past fall.

“We are thrilled to be on what I think is the number one sports station in town,” Joe Fisher, the “Voice of the Commodores,” says.  “And it is exciting to be on a station where we’ve got some Vanderbilt guys like George Plaster and Willy Daunic (hosts of “Sports Zone”).”

In addition to the game broadcasts and coaches’ shows, WGFX will also carry the daily “Commodore Update” features throughout the year.

“This is a very positive step for our Vanderbilt network and for Commodore fans in the Nashville area.” Meghan Molnar, general manager of the ISP Sports staff in Nashville, says.  “This new relationship provides a consistent broadcast home in this market for all of our programming.”

ISP Sports is entering its fifth year as the multimedia rightsholder for Vanderbilt Athletics.  As part of that agreement, the Winston-Salem-based company produces and markets a variety of services, including radio play-by-play and call-in shows, television programming, game programs, and corporate hospitality opportunities.  ISP also markets the university’s official athletics website, vucommodores.com.
