The Commodores, ranked 17th in the latest Golfweek poll, will participate in their final fall tournament this weekend at the 2012 Stanford Intercollegiate, hosted by Dr. Condoleeza Rice. Once again, this year’s field will feature 17 of the nation’s top collegiate women’s teams.
Vanderbilt will play 18 holes this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Stanford Golf Course, which will be set up as a par-71, 6,130-yard layout. Arizona, Arizona State, California, Georgia, Harvard, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Jose State, Stanford, Texas, UC Davis, UCLA, USC, and Washington will join the Commodores at the event this weekend. The field represents nine of the top 20 teams in the country.
Traveling for the Commodores will be senior Lauren Stratton, junior Rene Sobolewski, sophomores Irina Gabasa and Kendall Martindale, and freshman Jenny Hahn. Vanderbilt has traditionally played well at the tournament and claimed the team title in 2006.
The weather for the tournament looks to be beautiful for the weekend in Palo Alto, Calif. – highs in the high 60’s to mid 70’s, with winds up to 15 mph.
