Freshman Anna Leigh Keith shot a one-over par, 73, to lead the Commodore contingent at the Bryan National Collegiate on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. As a team, Vanderbilt is in sixth place with a total of 595 (291-304) after two rounds of play.
Keith (75-73) fired the 73 on Saturday and is tied with her Vanderbilt teammate and fellow freshman, Lauren Stratton (71-77), for 15th place with a 148. Sophomore Marina Alex leads all Vanderbilt players with a 147 (71-76) and is in 14th place by herself. Other scores for Vanderbilt include junior Megan Grehan’s 152 (74-78, T-45) and sophomore Andrea Messer’s 157 (79-78, T-69).
Florida State leads the tournament with a 579 (191-288) and is one stroke ahead of Wake Forest, who is in the clubhouse after two rounds with a 580 (289-291). Wake Forest teammates Cheyenne Woods and Michelle Shin are in a tie for the individual lead with a 139 (70-69).
“It was a tough day today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Any time you have the fourth best player in the country not make a birdie, you’re going to have a long day.She couldn’t get anything done today.
“Anna Leigh really scrambled today, and it was good for her confidence for her to go out and put together a solid round. She only hit six greens, but got up and down from everywhere. We need her to play like we know she’s capable.
“Other than Florida State and Wake Forest, everybody’s kind of bunched up together,” continued Allen. “If we can come out and stay in the present, and hit it one shot at a time tomorrow, then we’ll be okay. Our attitudes are good. We’ve already forgotten today, and we’ll go out and give it all we’ve got tomorrow. “
