The 12th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s golf team are in 13th place at the PING/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., with a team score of 602 (300-302). Junior Kendall Martindale is the team’s leader with a two-over par, 146 (73-73) after two rounds.
The Commodores also had counting scores from sophomore Jennifer Hahn, who carded a 75, and from freshmen Antonia Scherer and Simin Feng, who each shot a 77. Junior Irina Gabasa fired an 82 on Saturday.
“Unfortunately, it was another rough day for the Commodores,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We got off to a great start but then made some bad swings that lead to several big numbers. Having to count scores in the mid to upper 70’s in a field like this put us in this position.”
South Carolina leads the tournament with a two-round score of 568 (288-280), six strokes better than Arizona State and Duke. The Blue Devils’ Celine Boutier is in the individual leader with a six-under par, 138 (69-69).
The final round of the tournament concludes Sunday in Tempe, Ariz.
