Exciting Team, Superb Schedule, Great Value

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Citing growing optimism and a superb home schedule, Vanderbilt officials introduced 2004 Commodore football season ticket plans today with an incentive – lower prices.

In a continuation of the successful “We Want You Back” theme that helped generate the highest average attendance for Commodore men’s basketball games in five years, Vanderbilt is dropping the price of season tickets for the first time in nearly 20 years.

“The attraction of this plan is more than a price reduction,” Commodore Interim Director of Marketing Eric Nichols said. “Our team will be exciting and competitive, featuring more returning starters than any other team in the conference. The on-campus schedule is outstanding, from the opener against a SEC East rival to games against Florida and Tennessee at the end of the year. A college football fan couldn’t ask for much more of a home schedule.”

The Commodore Plan, representing the largest category of football season ticket holders, is $140, $22 less than the $162 total price last year. The Commodores did enjoy a seven-game home schedule last year, one more than the upcoming schedule.

The Commodore Plan price also is nearly 30% less than buying individual tickets to all six home games.

Vanderbilt will also sell individual season tickets under $100 for the first time in five years. Seats in two south end zone sections are available for $99.

“We wanted to reward existing season ticket holders while enticing new and former fans into the stadium to watch the Commodores. We are going to bring more families to the stadium. In the process, we hope to create more support of Vanderbilt football,” Nichols added.

Head Coach Bobby Johnson, entering his third season with the Commodores, welcomes the announcement.

“I think the prices give people in Nashville and throughout middle Tennessee another reason to check out our team and university. Our team is working hard to make it an exciting year for all Commodore fans. Bigger crowds supporting our team will have a positive impact on our team,” Johnson said.

Vanderbilt opens the season by hosting South Carolina on Sept. 4. Other home games include Mississippi State, Oct. 2; Rutgers, Oct. 9; Eastern Kentucky, Oct. 23; Florida, Nov. 6; and Tennessee, Nov. 20. All Commodore home games will be played in Vanderbilt Stadium.
