COLUMBUS, Ga. – Vanderbilt men’s golfers Gordon Sargent and Jackson Van Paris have been named to the 2024-25 Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel Fall Watch List, announced Wednesday by Golfweek and Golf Channel, media partners of the Haskins Award.
Created in 1971, the Haskins Award is given annually to the most outstanding men’s college golfer, as voted on by players, coaches, and media members. Past winners include Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, and the reigning winner, Jackson Koivun of Auburn.
Sargent, a Haskins Award finalist in each of the last three seasons, was selected to the Fall Watch List for the third time in his illustrious Commodore career. The senior delayed his professional PGA TOUR debut for a year by announcing his return to the Dores in April. Sargent comes into the 2024-25 season ranked No. 2 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Over the summer, the 2022 NCAA individual champion joined Van Paris in representing the United States at the Arnold Palmer Cup, where they helped the U.S. win the Palmer Cup on international soil for the first time since 2018. He also competed in the 124th U.S. Open and made match play at the U.S. Amateur Championship.
Van Paris was selected to his first Haskins Award Watch List after a breakout junior campaign. The Pinehurst, North Carolina, native earned a GCAA Division I PING All-American honorable mention nod and was an All-SEC second-team selection in 2023-24. Van Paris begins his senior season at Vanderbilt ranked fifth in the PGA TOUR University rankings and No. 8 in the WAGR. The senior had a successful summer on the amateur circuit. He was runner-up at the North & South Amateur, advanced to match play at the 124th United States Amateur, and teamed up with Sargent to help the U.S. win the Palmer Cup.
