Washington Earns Freshman of the Week

Set career highs in points and rebounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Sacha Washington averaged 8.5 points and 9.5 rebounds for the week en route to earning her first SEC recognition as Freshman of the Week.

Washington set career highs in points and rebounds against Alabama with 15 and 16, respectively. That performance was only three rebounds away from positioning Washington for the Vanderbilt single-game record for rebounds in a game. She added five free throws, an assist and a steal in the contest.

Washington shot 60 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from the charity stripe between the two games against Alabama and Georgia. She had 17 points, 19 rebounds, two assists and a steal for the week.

The freshman is 14th in the SEC for total rebounds with 139 on the season and is third in offensive rebounds per game (3.2).

This is Vanderbilt’s second weekly honor this season with Iyana Moore earning Co-Freshman of the Week on Jan. 4.
