NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team concludes its fall 2007 schedule this weekend at the Hilltopper Swim Invite in Bowling Green, Ky. The Commodores are one of three teams scheduled to compete, along with Evansville and Western Kentucky.
“It’ll be good to have a three-day invitational,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “It’s a prelim-final, which is the same type of format they run at the SEC meet at the end of the year. There should be some good competition and we’re looking for the girls to step up and really go up there and compete and make some strides in their times for this year.”
Vanderbilt is coming off a dual meet loss to Marshall. Freshman Leigh-Ann Axt won a pair of individual races against the Thundering Herd to bring her win total to eight on the season.
Evansville enters this weekend’s invitational with a dual meet record of 3-3, recording wins over Butler, Valparaiso and Eastern Illinois. The Purple Aces are led by Christina Schmidgall who won three individual events in Evansville’s last meet.
Host school Western Kentucky stands 1-1 on the season in dual meet competition. The Lady Toppers also picked up a victory at the Golden Grizzly Quadrangular Meet. Western Kentucky is led by Jessica Aspinall who recently claimed Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week honors for her performance against Georgia Tech.
Action begins at the Bill Powell Natatorium on Friday and continues until Sunday. Complete results will be available on vucommodores.com.
