HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team lost a dual meet to the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday. Freshman Leigh-Ann Axt shined again for the Commodores, winning the 1000-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle.
Axt got the Commodores off to a solid start, winning the 1000-yard freestyle, the second event of the meet. The freshman dominated the race, recording a time of 10:27.57 and winning by nearly 12 seconds over Jenny Johnsson of Marshall.
Axt won her second event of the day in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 25.09. Marshall’s Briana Burns came in second with a time of 25.27.
Vanderbilt had an impressive showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Axt, Christina Chao, Jennifer Molchan and Alex Jennings finished second with a time of 1:43.38.
The Commodores return to action next weekend at the Western Kentucky Invite. Competition at the event begins on Friday, Nov. 16 and continues until Sunday, Nov. 18.
