NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kate Hickman, a sophomore on the Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team, earned Player of the Week honors from the American Lacrosse Conference for her contributions this past weekend in a pair of Commodore wins over 15th-ranked North Carolina and league-rival Davidson. Hickman is Vanderbilt’s second honoree this season, joining senior Jess Roguski, and the fifth Commodore to be so-recognized since the league’s inception in 2002.

Hickman scored a combined eight goals on 8-of-12 shooting in the two VU victories. The Severna Park, Md., product also contributed two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover to the Commodore effort. In addition to benig recognized by the ALC, Hickman was named to the womenslacrosse.com honor roll.

Against UNC, Hickman scored three of her four goals during a five-goal Vanderbilt run that gave the Dores a comfortable 11-5 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the game. In the win over Davidson, Hickman scored the game’s first two goals to set the pace for Vanderbilt’s final winning margin of 15 goals (20-5).

In her freshman season of 2003, Hickman contributed eight points to Vanderbilt attack. Already this year, she has tripled that output. The 5′-4″ attacker has posted five hat-tricks and scored in nine of the Commodores’ 10 games. Hickman is one of five Dores that has scored 20-or-more points this season, joining seniors Lauren Peck, Michelle Allen, Roguski and Kelly Devlin.

Hickman and the Commodores play host to a pair of ALC rivals this weekend, as Ohio and Ohio State visit the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex on April 16 (7 p.m. CT) and 18 (1 p.m.), respectively.
