NASHVILLE, Tenn. – seven prep standouts have signed the National Letter of Intent to play women’s lacrosse at Vanderbilt University, Head Coach Cathy Swezey announced Monday.

The 2006 recruiting class includes Anastasia Adam (Severna Park, Md.), Sarah Downing (Morristown, N.J.), Carter Foote (Alexandria, Va.), Allie Frank (Annapolis, Md.), Megan Gibson (Germantown, Tenn.), Alexandra Mundy (Ellicott City, Md.) and Casey Pugatch (Baltimore, Md.).

“We are very excited about the class of 2010,” Swezey said. “Each of these girls has had an enormous impact on their high school teams, ranging from league, county and state championships to national rankings. We are truly encouraged by their desire to be at Vanderbilt.”

Swezey’s recruiting class includes three US Lacrosse All-America selections and a number of All-County and All-State honorees. The student-athletes have experienced success at the high school and club levels, preparing them for the high expectations of a team that made the 2004 NCAA Final Four.

“These girls could have chosen to go to many great places, and we feel lucky that they made the choice to be Commodores,” Swezey added. “We are confident that they will play an integral role in our march toward winning a National Title.”

In finding this year’s recruiting class, Swezey split her time between new and familiar places. Gibson, who attends the Hutchison School in Memphis, marks Coach Swezey’s first in-state recruit. Adam and Frank are high school teammates at the Severn School in Severna Park, Md.

Downing, from Swezey’s home state of New Jersey, attends the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut. Foote joins the Commodores from St. Stephens/St. Agnes in Northern Virginia, while Mundy (Glenelg HS) and Pugatch (McDonogh School) hail from the greater Baltimore area.
