The constant stream of violent news stemming from the occupation of Iraq can desensitize an American public growing weary of the hunt for Saddam, especially those millions of us with no stake in the fight.

That will never happen to Vanderbilt fullback Zeke Brandon. His father, Sergeant First Class Charles Brandon, US Army, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), drives Humvees on guard duty with those convoys between Baghdad and Tikrit, Saddam’s hometown. Sgt. Brandon has been stationed in Iraq since early April after the 4th ID was dispatched from Fort Hood near Killeen, Texas.
