VU Football to host future star camp

May 17, 2011

VU Football CampNashville, Tenn. – Vanderbilt Football has set up a special opportunity for families to share a unique football experience on Father’s Day weekend with its inaugural Future Star / Parent & Child Camp, which will take place on Saturday, June 18.

“The Future Star / Parent Child Camp will give the community and young people the chance to have fun, learn football and get to know our program,” said Vanderbilt Director of Football Operations Michael Hazel. “Our goal is to have people of all ages connect and participate together, the more the merrier.”

Rising first- through eight-graders of all ability levels and their parents are invited to join the Vanderbilt coaching staff as they develop and teach skills and techniques at all positions throughout the day on the football team’s practice field. Campers will also compete in the fast-paced game of Dore-Ball, putting their newly acquired skills into practice while learning the value of teamwork.

“Our football program is excited to offer the community this dynamic camp,” Commodore Head Football Coach James Franklin said. “Very few camps offer the chance for parents, guardians and/or family members the opportunity to not only go to camp with their children, but also participate in the activities. This will be a special experience for all involved, and we hope to make it an annual tradition.”

The coaching staff will emphasize passing, blocking, running, tackling, catching and defending techniques in their instruction throughout the half-day camp.

“We have several goals in mind,” Hazel said. “While we hope to grow our fan base, we also want to make sure parents and their participating child have an experience they won’t soon forget.”

The registration fee of $55 covers optional participation by the camper’s parent or guardian, teaching and instruction, fluids and snacks, end-of-camp awards and a camp t-shirt. Participants may register online at http://vucommodores.cstv.com/footballcamps/index.html or in person on the day of the camp. All Vanderbilt faculty and staff participants receive a 15 percent registration discount.
