Day One Results | Thomas & Martin Interview
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Vanderbilt competed in two races on the first day of the 2013 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships and broke school records in both events Tuesday evening at the Texas A&M Student Recreation Natatorium.
After one day at the SEC Championships, Vanderbilt sits in 12th place with 62 total points. Tennessee sits atop the standings with 185 total points. The Commodores competed in the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay Tuesday evening.
The team of Chrissy Oberg, Sarah Lynch, Lauren Torres and Caroline Thomas represented the Commodores in the 200 medley relay, as they finished 12th in a time of 1:42.98, which set the new school record. The finishing time of 1:42.98 was two seconds faster than the previous school record set by Oberg, Torres, Thomas and Elizabeth Brunk last season.
In the 800 freestyle relay, Torres, Hannah Martin, Erika Deardorf and Elly Faulkner combined to finish in 11th with a time of 7:23.51, which shattered the school record by just under 13 seconds. The previous school record was set in 1989.
Competition resumes Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. CT with prelims in the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free.
