VU continues league play against Georgetown

The Vanderbilt lacrosse team hosts Georgetown in its 2015-16 conference home opener. VU heads into Saturday’s 1:00 pm CT game with a 4-6 (0-1) record, and look to claim their third home victory of the season.

The Commodores come off a hard BIG EAST opener, falling 16-2 to the 2nd-ranked Florida Gators. Heading into the weekend, Vandy has four student-athletes scoring in the double digits. Leading the Commodores in scoring is redshirt-junior Kelly Chandler who has secured 25 goals for the black and gold this season. Jill Doherty leads VU in points and assists with 29 and 14 respectively.

Goalie Callahan Kent has been strong in the cage all year, starting all 10 of this season’s games. Kent averages 11.8 saves per game, and has amassed 106 saves on the year, having faced a total of 286 shots.

Georgetown enters its first conference game of the year with a 2-7 record. Both of GU’s victories have come on the road over Duke and George Mason. A trio of Hoyas has 10+ goals so far this season. Kristen Bandos leads the squad with 18 goals; as well a team-high 19 points and 24 draw controls. On the clear, the Hoyas average 79.4%.

The Hoyas have two student-athletes they have used interchangeably this season. Maddy Fisher has started all nine games, allowing 53 goals this season. Megan Macdonald has also seen action in every game, allowing 51 goals on 99 shots faced. Combined Georgetown as 56 saves this year.

In their last meeting, the ‘Dores fell 10-6 in DC to Georgetown.
