NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Commodores head east to face in-state conference rival, Tennessee. Vanderbilt comes off a split doubleheader weekend, topping Alabama A&M 7-0, but falling 0-4 to No. 5 South Carolina.
Surveying the Series
The Commodore-Volunteer series is the most seasoned in Vanderbilt men’s tennis history, with the teams meeting 91 times since 1927. In last year’s contest, the Commodores fell 4-3 to No. 5 Tennessee in Nashville. The last time the Dores topped the Vols was in 2018 by a score of 4-3 against a No. 21 Tennessee in Knoxville.
Scouting the Volunteers
Coming off a loss to No. 15 Auburn, Tennessee sits 9-5 on the season. The Volunteer side includes three nationally ranked singles players: No. 7 Johannus Monday, No. 62 Emile Hudd and No. 120 Shunsuke Mitsui. The Vols also have three nationally ranked doubles pairs: No. 4 Pat Harper/Monday, No. 50 Hudd/Mitsui and No. 70 Kent Hunter/Mitsui.
On Deck: The Dores will travel to Athens to face No. 7 Georgia on Saturday. Opening serve is scheduled for noon CT.
