LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Vanderbilt swimming team picked up its second dual meet win of the season, besting Arkansas-Little Rock, 113-107, on Friday, February 3.
The first event of the meet was a Trojan win in the 200 medley relay. Their quartet bested the Commodore grouping Chrissy Oberg, Laura Dillon, Lauren Torres and Betsy Galenti by less than one second. The Commodores also took third (Alexis Mayhall, Elizabeth Brunk, Sarah Ellen Lynch and Celeste Jones).
The Commodores then got their first win of the day when Freeman took the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:54.00. Alyxandra Vernon was behind her for second with a mark of 11:05.01.
The 200 yard freestyle saw Erika Deardorf finish second, less than a second behind UALR. That was followed by the Trojans finishing 1-2-3 in the 50 yard freestyle.
The Commodores got back to winning in the 200 yard individual medley. Mayhall edged Brunk with a time of 2:15.60 to Brunk’s 2:14.69.
Vanderbilt picked-up second, third and fourth place finishes in the 100 yard freestyle. Amy Salce saw a time of 54.47, Chelsea Morey finished in 54.68 and Zoe Cooper-Surma posted a mark of 56.73.
The next Commodore win came from Caroline Thomas, winning the 200 yard backstroke in 2:06.85.
Vanderbilt won the next event, as well, as Margaux Georgiadis won the 500 free going away, posting a mark of 5:15.24. Lynch was behind her for second with a time of 5:22.43.
The Commodores took another win the 200 yard backstroke, as Young won in 2:29.25 and Brunk was right behind her with a time of 2:29.79.
The 400 yard freestyle relay sealed the win for the Commodores, as Roberts, Salce, Torres and Thomas posted a time of 3:34.69. UALR was right behind them with a time of 3:35.34. The 11 point sealed the 113-107 win for Vanderbilt.
The Commodores remain in the Natural State for a meet at Arkansas on Saturday, February 4. Things get underway against the Razorbacks at the Arkansas Natatorium at 1:00 p.m. CT.
